Book writing software that keeps your whole manuscript organized
Chapters, scenes, characters and research in one calm workspace. Learn it in an afternoon, write in focus, and keep your files on your own computer.
Drag chapters into order. Groups and sub-groups, as deep as you need.
Demos recorded in QuillSpace for Windows. The Mac app looks a little different.
Built for books, not for one long document
Writing a novel in Word or Google Docs means scrolling through one huge file to find a single scene. Scrivener fixes that, but it asks you to learn a whole studio before you write a word. QuillSpace sits in between:
Organize the whole book
- Groups and sub-groups, nested as deep as you need, for parts, chapters, characters and research
- Sheets you can drag to reorder as the story changes
- Three-pane workspace: your groups on the left, sheets in the middle, the editor on the right
Then write in focus
- Focus mode dims everything except the line or paragraph you are writing
- Typewriter mode keeps your current line centered
- Visual editor, with an optional Markdown editor on Windows
- Word-count goals to keep your momentum
Your work stays yours, and out of AI training
- No generative AI. Nothing in QuillSpace writes, rewrites or analyzes your story
- Your manuscript never leaves your computer, so it cannot end up in an AI training set. See what the app does send
- Plain text files on your own computer, fully offline
- Export to PDF on both platforms, plus Word and HTML on Windows
- Version history on Windows and automatic snapshots on Mac, so you can always go back

Frequently Asked Questions
What is QuillSpace?
QuillSpace is a book writing app for Windows and Mac that helps novelists and long-form writers organize a whole manuscript, write in focus, and keep their files on their own computer.
Is QuillSpace a Scrivener alternative?
Yes. QuillSpace gives you Scrivener-style organization (groups for chapters, characters and research, with sheets you can reorder) in a much simpler interface you can learn in an afternoon. It does not copy every Scrivener feature, such as the corkboard or a full compile system. Read our full comparison.
Does QuillSpace work on Mac?
Yes. QuillSpace for Windows comes from the Microsoft Store, and QuillSpace for Mac is a direct download from quillspace.app. They are separate apps and separate purchases: a license bought on one platform does not unlock the other.
How much does QuillSpace cost?
QuillSpace is free to start on Windows and on Mac. To unlock everything, choose $14.99 per year or a $49.99 lifetime license. Each platform is a separate purchase. See pricing.
Where are my files stored?
On your own computer. Your work is saved as plain text files, not in someone else's cloud, and QuillSpace works fully offline.
Does QuillSpace use my writing to train AI?
No. QuillSpace has no generative AI features, and your manuscript never leaves your computer: it is saved as plain text files on your own disk, not on our servers. We never receive your writing, so we cannot train AI on it or hand it to anyone who would.
Does QuillSpace collect any data?
Only basic usage statistics, never your writing. Depending on the platform, the app sends things like which features are used, counts such as how many sheets you create, your app version, and your answers to the short welcome survey. Our privacy policy lists everything, including what our server logs.
