Step by step on Windows
- Open a sheet in your project and click Preview (the eye icon) above the editor. QuillSpace shows your project as an e-book on an iPhone screen.
- Turn pages with the arrows or your arrow keys, switch the Theme between serif, sans and compact, and change the text size with A− and A+.
- To export the whole book, click Back to All, right-click your project and choose Export Project. To export only the sheet you are writing, click Export above the editor.
- Pick a format: PDF, DOCX, HTML, MD (Markdown) or EPUB. The preview on the right updates.
- For PDF, choose a Style and a Paper size (A4 or Letter), then export.
Tips for Windows
- The Swiss Knife style is free. Academica, Business, Manuscript and Novel carry a PRO badge and need a paid plan, as does exporting several selected sheets in one go.
- Exported files are ordinary files on your computer. You can open them in any app that reads the format.
- For EPUB, pick a reading theme: Serif, Sans or Compact.
Step by step on Mac
- Choose File › Preview as eBook (⌥⌘P), or right-click a project or group and choose Preview as eBook.
- Pick a Device (iPhone, iPad or E-Reader) and a Theme (Serif, Sans or Compact), change the text size, and turn pages with the arrow keys. The Contents menu jumps to a chapter.
- To export the whole book, right-click your project and choose Export Project…. To export only the sheet you are writing, click Export in the editor toolbar or press ⇧⌘E.
- Pick a format: PDF, Word (DOCX), EPUB, Markdown or HTML. The preview updates as you choose.
- For PDF, choose a Style and a Paper size (A4 or Letter), then click Export….

Frequently asked questions
Can I send the DOCX to an editor or agent?
Yes. DOCX is the Word format, and it opens in Word, Google Docs and Pages.
Can I publish the EPUB?
QuillSpace creates an EPUB 3 file in the theme you chose. It does not add a cover or author details, so check the requirements of the store you use and finish the file in an e-book tool before you publish. On Mac each sheet becomes its own chapter with a table of contents; on Windows the book is one section, and some rich text formatting may be simplified.
Is exporting free?
On Windows, yes with the Swiss Knife style, one sheet or one project at a time; the PRO styles and exporting several selected sheets need a paid plan. On Mac, exporting one sheet is free in every format with Swiss Knife; whole projects, groups, several sheets at once and the PRO styles are part of QuillSpace Pro.
